Philosophy In Practice

At Seasons of Change therapeutic practices are grounded in an African and holistic psychology lens, offering an eclectic selection of modalities tailored to each person, couple, or family’s unique needs. Evidence-based practices are drawn on to choose the one that best suits you.

The approach to therapy at Seasons of Change is gentle yet firm, conversational, and liberating; adopting a decolonial lens, aligning with those fighting against global imperial powers, acknowledging impacts of trauma, capitalism, and colonialism in creating and exacerbating mental illness.

Humor is deeply ingrained in practice to cultivate a transformative environment to help achieve growth and see beyond a diagnostic code.

Modalities in practice

When asked, “What kind of therapy do you provide?” the answer is: Eclectic.

Clinical work is centered around talk therapy and pulls from Cultural Relational Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Short-Term Solutions Focused Therapy.

Here your uniqueness is embraced. The modalities used in practice are determined by your needs.

Let’s work together to determine the best treatment plan for you and move away from commonly used “one size fits most” approach to therapy.

Psychotherapy FAQs

  • Why should I choose therapy over coaching?

It's not about choosing one over the other, but understanding when therapy might be more appropriate for your needs. Therapy is particularly helpful if you are seeking clinical guidance or are working to address mental health concerns. It is ideal for more complex needs, such as obtaining therapy letters for clearance for gender-affirming care and other clinical documentation.

Therapy and coaching can also work in tandem. While therapy focuses on mental health, coaching addresses different realms of wellness, practical goals, and personal development. Integrating both can provide comprehensive support for your overall well-being.

Please note, I do not offer family therapy at this time, only family wellness coaching. Additionally, my relationship therapy is limited to dyads and couples in romantic relationships who are also engaging in individual therapy.

  • No, I keep my roles as therapist and coach distinct. If you'd like referrals to outside therapists or coaches, I am happy to provide them.

  • My psychotherapy services are provided outside of SOC. I work with a practice that accepts many major insurance providers as well as out of network benefits. Additionally the practice offers sliding scale and self-pay options. Please note that coaching services offered through Seasons of Change are not covered by insurance

  • Clients MUST be in New York State to receive therapeutic services. This is both for legal and insurance reimbursement reasons.
